California’s money bail system is not just, not smart and is not keeping Californians safe.

The profit-driven bail industry is fighting tooth and nail to maintain the status quo and working against SB 10 (The California Money Bail Reform Act), a bill that will reform the broken bail system to prioritize public safety and restore justice to the pretrial process.

California’s top law enforcement officer and the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court agree that it is necessary to reform our state’s bail system in favor of a system that prioritizes public safety instead of the dollars in a person’s bank account.

Deciding whether to release someone from jail  based solely on how much money they can pay is unsafe and unjust – people who can’t afford to pay bail are stuck in jail while they await trial, while those who have the cash, even if they pose a danger to the community, are released.
